The fourth starship Enterprise was under the command of Captain Rachel Garret when it was destroyed by a
Romulan fleet in 2344. The Enterprise-C responded to a distress call from a Klingon outpost on Narendra III
that was being attacked by Romulans. The Enterprise was presumed destroyed and surviving crew taken
prisoner. The Klingon Empire viewed these events as an act of honor by Starfleet which led to an increased
peace with the United Federation of Planets.
During the attack a torpedo explosion created a temporal rift that sent the Enterprise-C 22 years into the
future, the year 2366, meeting with the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D. Because
the Enterprise-C wasn't destroyed an alternate timeline was formed and the Klingons were on the winning side
of a war against the Federation. Captain Garret died on the Enterprise-C in a Klingon attack. Lieutenant
Richard Costello took command of the Enterprise-C and with Lieutenant Tashsa Yar returned to 2344 and faced
certain death in order to restore the normal timeline.
The Enterprise-C was featured in The Next Generation episode "Yesterday's Enterprise."
